The Lobstermount Story

In 2002, we saw a need for a better product for holding portable electronic devices. We had bought a mount to hold our hand held GPS in our company plane (a 1974 Cessna 150) and we were disappointed with it. We decided to expand our horizons and enter the manufacturing and sales business with our own superior mounting products.

After lots of thought, several prototypes, and patent research, we settled on a design, applied for patents and received encouragement from our patent attorneys that we were in good stead. We invested in production molds and dies and began making the original M-3 Series Lobstermount.

We introduced the Lobstermount at the Shot Show in Las Vegas in the fall of 2004. In December 2004, we received a cease and desist notice from another manufacturer of mounting devices. In addition, a number of our customers received letters concerning our product from this competitor.

We fought this legal battle until mid 2006, when our lawyers told us it would take a lot more money than we had already spent to have our day in court. At that point it was evident that we had to settle. The terms were very unsavory, but it ended the lawsuit without our being totally destroyed.

During this time we realized that we needed a different and more economical line of products. Thus the present “Shrimp Series” product line was developed. Currently we are proud to offer several bases, all of which attach appropriately to the unchallenged, unlitigated Shrimp body. Our new Suction base replaces our original suction base, and is even better. Not only is the ball offset from the centerline of the base, it has the capability of being tilted further off center for even greater function.

We endeavor to provide you with the highest quality and most configurable mounting system available anywhere. This modular system should provide years of reliable service, and be useful in future applications not yet imagined.

Needless to say, with an innovative product line we feel our future is bright. We continue to stand behind our products and make every effort to provide outstanding service. We encourage you to share with us your success stories and pictures of how you use your Lobstermount for your specific requirements.
